Dell Optiplex GX260, hard drive issues?

I have a Dell Optiplex gx260, that was purchased from a government surplus store. I am having problems getting the system to recognize the hard drives. If I unplug the computer, remove the battery and as system starts I hit F12 and complete diagnostics which recognizes the drives, but when I hit F1 to continue and it continues to boot it suddenly does not recognize the drives. I know the drives are good I took it out of a GX280 the had a burnt mother board. Any help would be great.
The hard drive does work I have tested it . Using the diagnostics durning boot sequnce both drives pass, and are recognized but when I press f1 to continue to boot they suddenly are not recognized.

Answer:

If you pulled your hardrive out of a bad computer, I would have a hard time believing they are good without doing other testing.

1) Test the drives on a computer you know works.
2) Make sure your jumpers are set to Master or Master and Slave if you have two. Make sure you are using the correct ribbon cables.
3) If you do not have an operating system, you will need to install one to know they are good or to do some testing.
4) If your drives already contain an operating system, testing them on a system that already has an OS will only confuse the computer and complicate things.
5) If you are trying to re-use an operating system by simply moving the hard-drives, you will have lots of trouble with drivers and who knows what else. Not to mention which jumpers to set on which hardrive. Again, one will have to be Master (with the OS) and the other as Slave (for simple storage).
